The digital platform provides the shared infrastructure for all research activities of the SRA. In line with the two main objectives of the SRA, the elucidation of the role of Neo-Latin in the early modern world and the integration of Neo-Latin Studies into early modern research as a whole, it fulfils two functions: On the one hand, it provides and manages the data foundation on which all eight subprojects are built, integrating all their texts and data and providing them with tools for searching and analysing Neo-Latin texts; in this way, it guarantees their success and the coherence of the SRA’s research program. On the other hand, it serves as an interface with the outside world and fulfils the SRA’s mission of making Neo-Latin accessible to all early modern researchers, expanding its contents systematically for maximal usefulness to the larger scholarly community. It thus aims to establish itself as the Latin go-to-reference for all scholars interested in the early modern world, including the Latinless. Both goals are achieved by the following four elements:
(1) a reference corpus of Neo-Latin texts with full-text search and analytical functions
(2) a database collecting information on the texts of the corpus
(3) a curated collection of links to digital tools and resources
(4) an AI powered chatbot able to translate Latin texts and to answer questions about Neo-Latin topics
