From 18 to 19 June 2026, our colleagues in Orléans organised a conference on the theme of ‘The Suffering of the Epic Body’ (Malheurs du corps épique). Over the course of two days, the speakers explored the theme of the body and its disfigurement in epic poetry. In addition to ancient Greek and Roman epics, the discussion also covered the Middle Ages, Byzantium, and the early modern period. Florian Schaffenrath spoke about the deformation of the body in Neo-Latin hagiographic epics.
