Hagiographic identities

Patryk M. Ryczkowski, PI in the Sub-Project 6 Neolatin and the Newcomers and currently also a MSCA Postdoctoral Fellow at the Vilnius University, organises a conference Hagiographic Identities: Catholic Communities and Their Saints in Early Modern Times which will take place from 15 to 17 October 2026 at the Faculty of Philology of the Vilnius University. The conference brings together around 30 scholars from Poland, Lithuania, Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Romania, Slovakia, Czechia, Croatia, Hungary, the Netherlands and Great Britain. While focusing on early modern hagiography in the context of the contemporary cultic practices, the presentations will put emphasis on the Basilians, the inherent representatives of monasticism in the eastern Europe and, in particular, Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. The keynote lecture will be delivered by Melchior Jakubowski (Warsaw), scholar of the Basilian art and recent winner of the ERC Starting Grant (2026) devoted to the Basilians.
