To mark the official launch of our eight-year research project, we hosted an opening ceremony in the main university hall on 24 March 2026.

Florian Schaffenrath, speaking on behalf of the SRA, welcomes all the guests present. The programme is accompanied by music from the Tyrolean string quartet Quartissimo.

The Dean of our faculty, Prof Dr Jürgen Fuchsbauer, delivers the faculty’s welcome message and wishes the team of over 20 members all the best.

With our 8 sub-projects and 4 related projects, we have a very broad remit and thus cover the entire field of Neo-Latin.

The highlight of the evening was the keynote lecture by Prof. Marc Laureys of the University of Bonn on the topic ‘Between travel guide and epigraphic research: The exploration of Italy through the inscriptions in Lorenz Schrader’s Monumenta Italiae (1592)’.

To round off the evening, we had the chance to get together with our friends and interested guests over food and drink.
